From the grandest of religious ceremonies to the most humdrum of daily routines, “ritual” serves an important function in all of our lives, if only because the actions we regularly repeat come to define us. Be it magical working, enacted psychodrama, obsessive tick, or habit of hygiene, we are deeply moved by set patterns of behavior treated with special significance. filling Station wants to know what about ritual moves you! Do you (or your characters) have pre-game good luck rituals? Cultish mind control behaviours? Calming self-care routines? New employee initiation rites? And how does ritual manifest in experimental writing?
The editors at filling Station welcome submissions of experimental poetry, prose, creative nonfiction, and reviews of books dealing with ritual in any of it its forms. This may include work with ritualistic subject matter, or which incorporates ritual into the process of its creation. We specifically encourage submissions from creators who identify with female or gender non-conforming, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, immigrant, impoverished, survivor, or other marginalized communities.
Send your original unpublished work through Submittable with the word RITUAL in the title and cover letter by December 31, 2019 to be considered for inclusion in Issue 74. General submissions will remain open during this time.
