AMPA 2014 Achievement Awards Recipient

filling Station is extremely proud to announce that Emily Ursuliak is the recipient of the 2014 Alberta Magazine Achievement Award for Volunteer of the Year.

Emily Ursuliak has long shared her passion for the written word as a steadfast and energetic member of the literary arts communities in both Calgary and Red Deer.

In her work with filling Station over the past several years, Ursuliak has dramatically increased the magazine’s public presence and has done so in ways that are both innovative and engaging.

In addition to serving on the voluntary editorial collective vetting literary submissions as Fiction Editor, she founded and organized filling Station’s Hot Dates with Blank Pages, monthly writing events in public spaces throughout Calgary, as well as the highly successful Way Back When Fundraiser, which invited established and emerging writers to read from their juvenilia.

Ursuliak’s dedication to facilitating community involvement, and making writing accessible to public audiences through events and publication, is done with an infectious enthusiasm and generous spirit that inspires her colleagues.
