The People’s Poetry Festival (PPF), held August 19-21 2011, presents the PPF Kick-Off Event! This event will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011, at Pages Books on Kensington. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the event will go until 9:00 pm. This event is a great introduction to the festival, with readings being given by writers representing many of Calgary’s literary groups. PPF would like to invite all interested members of the media to attend this historic event.
Here is the lineup:
Wakefield Brewster - one of Calgary’s most acclaimed spoken word artists;
Iqbal (Bob) Haider - Founding president of the Josh Literary Society;
Meghan Doraty - Representing filling Station and Flywheel Reading Series, which she hosts;
David Rhoads - Representing the Calgary Drop In Centre’s Real Life Spoken Words & Poets;
Erin Dingle - Representing Single Onion Poetry Society as a member of its board;
Diane Guichon - Published author, representing Wordworth youth writing camps;
Andre Prefontaine and Paul Finkleman - Representing the 2011 Calgary SLAM Team
Following short readings by each writer, an audience Q&A with the writers will be facilitated by poet and scholar Ian Kinney, a filling Station Collective Member and former Managing Editor of NoD Magazine.
This will be a fast-paced evening giving attendees a taste of what the People’s Poetry Festival has in store!
Refreshments will be provided.
