PPF launches this weekend
Rather than doing our own Blow-Out Festival this year, filling Station is involved as an organizer of the People's Poetry Festival! We're very happy about it. Please read more below. The festival launches this weekend, August 19-21 2011, in the neighbourhood of Kensington, Calgary.
PSA for Immediate Release:
The People’s Poetry Festival
August 19-21, 2011
Various locations in Kensington
Who: The People’s Poetry Festival (PPF)
What: A free, interactive festival that provides a creative introduction to poetry for the curious. The PPF seeks to make the art form fun and accessible to all.
When: August 19 – 21, 2011
Where: Various locations in Kensington
Contact: Neshali Weera, Festival Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 403-836-5669
While the festival’s first priority is public interaction, PPF also brings together established poets from Calgary’s better known literary groups, emphasizing this quietly thriving artistic community, and encourages lesser known writers’ to reveal their words in an inclusive space.
PPF will transform Kensington into a playground of creativity with the participation of many businesses including Pages Books on Kensington, Plaza Theatre, The Roasterie, House Coffee Sanctuary, Oolong Tea House, and also the Market Collective. For first-time participants who will enjoy discovering their hidden talent, it also promises to be a gateway to further awareness of, and engagement with, Alberta’s cultural industry.
Friday August 19, 6:30pm, Pages Books on Kensington: Festival kick-off with established Calgary poets & Q&A
Saturday Aug 20, 1:00pm, Plaza Theatre: Double Feature with HOWL and the NFB’s Leonard Cohen documentary
Sunday Aug 21, 2:00pm, Oolong Tea House: Poetry Workshop with Sarah Scott from the Aboriginal Writer’s Circle and Mark Giles from the Creative Writing Faculty at the U of C.
Saturday & Sunday August 20-21, 10am-5pm: Open mics outside the Plaza Theatre, Finger Painting Poems, Market Collective, Poetry Walks installations, Typewriter Table at Roasterie & journaling at Higher Ground
