Jonah Speaks of the Whale
When they asked what it was like, I told them –
Inside it was ocean, blue-black, and churning.
A barrel rolling away from land. My hand in front
of me. Nothing but darkness.
When they asked what I heard, I said
Voices. Someone calling me name.
God rowing past in a shaky boat.
