Clarisse Nicoïdski

Clarisse Nicoïdski (1938-1996) was born in Lyon, France, to Sephardic parents from Yugoslavia. She corresponded in Judeo-Spanish with her grandparents and parents, and taught English, novels and poetry. Ironically, she preserved Yugoslav Judeo-Spanish under the German occupation of France, writing poems which refelcted the gentle sonority of the language she grew up with. She entrusted her Judeo-Spanish manuscripts to the internationally know specialist of Judeo-Spanish, Haim Vidal Séphiha.
