Catherine Greenwood

Catherine Greenwood’s first book, The Pearl King and Other Poems, was a Kiriyama Prize notable book, and her poetry has won several awards, including a National Magazine Gold Award. One of her poems was a runner-up in the most recent CBC Literary Prize contest. These “Five Fragments” are excerpted from a forthcoming manuscript (The Lost Letters, Brick Books, Fall 2013), and assume the voice of Heloise writing to her lover Peter Abelard. The original Heloise and Abelard hail from the middle ages, and these poems set their story in our own time.
